Originally from Scotland County, and the youngest of six children, I was raised by parents who instilled in me a strong commitment to God, family and community. After completing my education at UNC-Chapel Hill, I began my career in Raleigh, initially with private practice before dedicating most of my career to public service. I've served as an Assistant District Attorney for more than 23 years, having successfully prosecuted all levels of crime, including child abuse, drug trafficking, and homicide cases. I've litigated in district, civil and criminal, juvenile, superior, and federal courts. I have also presided over quasi-judicial proceedings as an Appeals Referee with the Division of Employment Security.

I have served on numerous professional and civic committees for the betterment of our community including Governor's Task Forces, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse, Sexual Assault, and Juvenile Justice committees. Active in my faith, I have served as a Sunday School teacher, a reader, and a trainer on their safety team. As a mother, I have volunteered in the classrooms, participated in their PTA's and supported their athletic, academic and other extracurricular activities. Though involved with many neighborhood and community groups, I am most proud of my husband's and my support of the North Carolina Vietnam Veterans and Special Olympics programs.

I enjoy spending time with our children and granddaughters, gardening, cooking and baking with my family and friends.
